I just finished presenting a seminar last week at the 2009 COSE Business Conference. My session was entitled, “Results-Based Email Marketing” which included strategies to optimize your Email marketing campaign. I had over 100 people attend the session indicating that there is great interest on how to get the most out of your Email marketing campaigns. There was a great response of questions by those who attended and I want to pass along some of the content that may be helpful to you if you have upcoming plans to implement your first or next Email campaign. Briefly some of my topics included, “Why and How” Email marketing is Proactive, Targeted, Preferred (54% of small businesses rated email as the force that drives visitors and customers to their sites & storefronts), Measurable, Effective - In real time, (85% of responses in the first 48 hours of sending), and Affordable.

But in the end you have to make sure that your Email gets opened and how do you do that?
I reviewed with the group why the “From Line” and the “Subject Line” are 2 crucial fields that should be given the same importance as the body text of the message. Many people first look at the “From Line” and if it isn’t recognizable they will trash it. The “Subject Line” is the next field that will determine whether the Email gets opened or not. Also there are criteria that you should be sensitive to concerning populating these fields which adhere to the Can-Spam Act.
